Heirlooms

We've been working on the family's genealogy for the past year. As part of that project, we've begun taking pictures of family heirlooms and the stories behind them. Although not of any great value, these bottles brought back memories of my childhood and early marriage. Do you know what they were for?Answer: Many years ago before no-iron clothing, clothes were wrinkled once washed and dried. In order to iron them without creases, bottles were filled with water and you would sprinkle your clothes that were to be ironed. (You could purchase a sprinkler head that would fit in the top of the bottle.) After sprinkling your clothes you would roll them up, place them in a plastic bag and then put them in the refrigerator until ready to be ironed. Voila, no wrinkles! This seems rather silly in today's world, but it worked!

Oh man do I ever remember. It would take an old codger like me to remember that. Thanks for you kind and comforting worlds for our daughter. She rested well last night, just one day at a time the doctor said. Rachel is strong and healthy this was just a rare situation. I don't even know what to call it yet and I am a nurse. Got to do some research.

Thank you for leaving such a nice comment on my post! So very kind of you.
I used one of those all the time growing up. My job was to iron my Momma's hankies. I now have the hankies but somewhere along the way Momma got rid of the " ironing sprinkler"! I had totally forgotten all about them. Thank you for the rememberence...sharon
p.s. please feel free to stop in anytime! blessings to you.
